Back around 1985, I was a freshman in college living at home and I had some friends who had a garage band named The Blast. My family lived in a 100-year-old townhouse, very tall (three stories) and very long, but very narrow. There was another townhouse, as the name implies, on the other side of the party wall. My parents went to Seattle over New Year’s to see the Wagner Ring, and of course, I had a party. We set up The Blast in my dining room. I tried to keep things to a dull roar, but as midnight approached I was up on the roof to watch the fireworks when the band let it rip. It was loud as shit.  As I was having a drink and getting rejected for a date, Todd Morrison (nickname Beef) came running up the stairs saying, “The cops are here and they’re looking for YOU!” I hadn’t noticed that the band had stopped. I wend downstairs and there was one cop in the kitchen asking Amy old she was (we were pretty much all under age), while another was walking around shining his flashlight in the ashtrays. I approached the cop in the kitchen and we chatted briefly. He told me that we had to shut down the band. On their way out, one cop said, “You guys are pretty good. You just need to find a place to play.” The next morning I found the dents on the front door where they banged on it with their baton. The door was open so they just walked in, I guess. The dents are still there. Great party.

That’s only the fun part. My parents were due home the next day. So I had to get the place cleaned up. It took forever, but I finally got it done. However, I missed all the puke in the second floor bathroom (my parents’ bathroom). While I was cleaning that up, I hear my dad yell, “JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!!” I go downstairs, and he is standing in front of the hand-made harpsichord that his friend had built and he was borrowing. Somebody had spilled a beer in it. I had to go over to the house of the guy who built it and tell him what happened (and apologize), and I had to pay for the repair. Fortunately it was only a couple hundred dollars, but probably also a bunch of man hours. The sound board had to be replaced because it had warped . Pretty stupid of me not to move it upstairs, or at least throw a tarp over it.

Hell of a party, though. No regerts.

Ha! Ive had my house fot 25 years now and know just about everyone on my block as well as those behind me but had a band years ago 2009ish we used to practice and drink a little too late and much too loud in my backyard garage (outbuilding), One night the police found us playing and would not give a warning because "we have been looking for you guys for a long time". Only time I've been to criminal court. 8 hours community service and was wiped.

I was ready to pay a fine but judge wouldnt let me plead guilty since Id never had anything but speeding tickets. We got away with cranking venue volume for a few months before they found my backyard garage. Ha!

Someone shouted that at a Bob Mould show during the tour for his first solo album, and his response was “get the fuck out”, to the delight of everyone else in the place.

That should be the default response.

LOL perfect. When I hear/see that I always think about the Drive-By Truckers song called S outhern R ock O pera. “The paramedics could still hear Freebird playing on the radio... you know its a very loooooong song”
